TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – Majid Safa-Taj, a political analyst, said here on Monday that the challenges faced by the U.S. in Iraq will increase day by day, stressing that Iraq will soon become another Vietnam for U.S. troops.

Safa-Taj told the Mehr News Agency that the U.S. has for over two decades cast a covetous eye on the oil reserves of the Middle East, adding that it has always been struggling to dominate the reserves of the region through various policies.

He said the U.S. had devised a scenario to attain its goals in the Middle East that started with Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, and was now continued by the occupation of Iraq.

Safa-Taj said the U.S. authorities are unable to allay the dissatisfaction of the Iraqi people with the occupation of the country.

“The U.S. is now trying to play the role of international organizations in Iraq while at the same time retaining its grips over the country,” he said. “The White House has been unable to resolve the crises that are crippling Iraq. Still, they are ready to face more challenges but never want to hand control over Iraq’s affairs to the UN.”

The analyst added that under the prevailing conditions the possibility of more suicide attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq is growing high day by day, regretting that it is the Iraqi people who suffer most in such attacks.
